In 1931, the faculty of the University of Connecticut voted to offer comprehensive examinations in most degree programs to graduating seniors, and outgrowth of a report to the Committee on the Study of Honors (11/6/1930). Charles Chester McCracken succeeded Dr. Works in 1930. President McCracken maintained a steady growth of the college and the quality of its programs during the difficult early years of the Depression. The highlight of his years at Storrs was the changing of the name of the institution to Connecticut State College in 1933, which culminated a long campaign by students, alumni and administrators.
